iMac19,1 (2019) with Radeon Pro 580X – macOS Tahoe compatibility status
Hi Albert,
thank you for your work on OpenCore Legacy Patcher T2.
I am using a 2019 27-inch iMac (iMac19,1) with the following configuration:
- Intel Core i9, 8 cores, 3.6 GHz
- Radeon Pro 580X with 8 GB VRAM
- 64 GB RAM
- 1 TB Apple PCIe SSD
- Retina 5K internal display
- macOS Sequoia 15.8.1 currently installed
- FileVault enabled
- SIP enabled
I am very interested in running macOS Tahoe on this machine, but I would prefer to wait until support for this specific configuration is reasonably stable.
Could you please let me know the current status of the iMac19,1, especially regarding:
- Radeon Pro 580X / Polaris graphics acceleration
- native 5K internal display support
- internal audio
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
- FileVault
- sleep/wake
- overall stability under macOS Tahoe
I noticed the recent Polaris-related changes in the 19.7 series, which look promising for this GPU.
Has the iMac19,1 with Radeon Pro 580X already been tested successfully, or are there still known blockers or limitations?
Thank you very much for your work and for any information you can provide.

Polaris may work as since the 2017 MacBook Pro with the polaris architecture is confirmed to be working. Since it isn't a T2 mac, it has a higher success rate

Thank you both for your replies.
I currently only have the older original OpenCore Legacy Patcher installed/available, which does not support macOS Tahoe. I have not installed the new T2 fork or macOS Tahoe on this iMac yet, so I cannot provide a currently running version of the new patcher.
I opened this issue to find out whether my specific configuration — iMac19,1 (2019) with Radeon Pro 580X — has already been tested successfully before I proceed with an installation.
The information about Polaris support on the 2017 MacBook Pro is encouraging. Do you know of any confirmed tests with the iMac19,1 specifically, especially regarding:
Thank you very much for your help.

Since the 580X is Polaris, yes it may work. For the rest, I don't have a 2019 iMac but with root patches it may work. I'd recommend you'd make a seperate partition and try Tahoe from there with root patches.

Thank you, that helps a lot.
I think I will wait a little longer until the current root patching issues on non-T2 Macs are resolved, and then test Tahoe on a separate partition as you suggested.
Since my iMac19,1 uses the Radeon Pro 580X / Polaris architecture, it is good to know that the graphics side has a reasonable chance of working.
If you come across any confirmed tests with an iMac19,1, especially regarding the internal 5K display, audio, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth or FileVault, I would be very interested to hear about them.
Thanks again for your help.

I would recommend you try the OCLP 3.0.0 RC2 build. I've heard that it's performing well with non-T2 Macs like yours.
@foofighter242 ·
Thank you for the recommendation. I think I’ll wait a little longer until OCLP 3.0.0 is more mature and there are some confirmed reports specifically for the iMac19,1 with Radeon Pro 580X under macOS Tahoe.
I’d rather wait for a bit more stability than risk my current setup.

Unfortunately, from OpenCore Legacy Patcher 3.0.0 RC2 and 3 there are users migrating to this patcher because their 2019 iMacs are bootlooping and they fixed the bootloop by migrating to this patcher.
