Hi, @pmhjr510 !
The password mechanism has been changed in 190006.0, and the popup that says Enter the password for Universal-Binaries.dmg is now considered obsolete because now you need to enter the macOS password instead. Forget what the popup said. I'll fix this in a future update.

The problem now is that, after applying the patch, the system boots into recovery mode;

I managed to get the audio working with version 4.0.0.190006.3 - 4.0.0 alpha 19.6.3, but upon restarting, the Mac got stuck on a black screen.

SIP is disabled,

That was the alternative for restoring the system.
mount -uw “/Volumes/MacOSTahoe”
bless --mount "/Volumes/Macintosh HD" --bootefi --last-sealed-snapshot

Can you deselect the Vega GPU from the root patches and inject the rest? That's a known problematic one. Once you reach the screen where it says which root patches are available, click on Configure Root Patches and disable the AMD Vega root patch. For this one, there are numerous reports that it causes black screens and kernel panics.
@pmhjr510
Do you know how to fix the Vega GPU patches, @Medelcartelinc ?

@Medelcartelinc ·

@albert-mueller I checked amd_vega.py. We were missing AMDRadeonX5000HWServices.kext in the root patches dictionary for Vega GPUs. Since Apple dropped Vega completely on Tahoe, failing to inject the hardware services kext causes the display to not initialize, resulting in the black screen or kernel panics. I've pushed a fix to our fork adding the missing kext and the yellow screen color fix. @pmhjr510 once the PR is merged and a new Nightly is out, you can re-enable the Vega GPU patch and try.

@pmhjr510 ·

Look at how the audio works: with no files in the folder, if I simply generate an EFI or put another one in, it goes to a black screen; if I restart while holding Alt, it skips the empty EFI and the audio works perfectly.

@Medelcartelinc ·

@pmhjr510 I have investigated the issue you reported on your iMac19,1. The black screen when booting with the OCLP EFI is likely caused by the agdpmod=pikera boot argument. This parameter is currently injected by default for macOS Tahoe to fix display policies for Navi GPUs, but it causes a black screen on Polaris and Vega architectures like yours.

I have implemented a fix to restrict this boot argument only to Navi GPUs. Could you try building a new EFI with the latest commit and see if the black screen is resolved? If it still fails, please send me the OpenCore boot logs so I can investigate further.

@pmhjr510 ·

Please excuse my lack of knowledge; could you explain how to create a new EFI with the latest commit?

@Medelcartelinc ·

@pmhjr510 No worries! Here's how to build a new EFI with the latest commit:

Download the latest source — Go to Medelcartelinc/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher-T2 and click Code → Download ZIP, or if you have Git: git clone https://github.com/Medelcartelinc/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher-T2.git
Run the app — Open OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher.app from the Build-Folder, or double-click Build-Project.command in Terminal to build it from source.
Build the EFI — In the app, click "Build and Install OpenCore", then install it to your USB or EFI partition.
After booting with the new EFI, the black screen on Polaris/Vega should no longer occur since agdpmod=pikera is now restricted to Navi GPUs only. Please let me know if it works, and if it still fails send me the OpenCore logs so I can investigate further.

Empty EFI, audio OK
I need to hold down the Alt key to select the disk; if I don't hold the Alt key when clicking on the disk, it starts up but goes into Recovery mode.

Something's up if the EFI is empty. That's why it goes only into Recovery.

Audio works when the EFI memory is empty. In the video below, with the EFI memory generated by OCLP, the system boots only into recovery mode.
4.0.0 alpha 19.7.1
I've also noticed a lot of Wi-Fi instability with the last two updates; it starts up disabled several times.

@pmhjr510 Your OpenCore log showed the cause: the EFI was built with SecureBootModel enabled (x86legacy). Root patching rebuilds the kernel collection, so Apple's boot.efi rejects its signature and resets into Recovery. That's also why booting without OpenCore works. This is fixed in f60669b. Please rebuild and install OpenCore from the latest main, then reboot normally without holding Alt. If you want to keep your current EFI for now, set Misc > Security > SecureBootModel to Disabled in EFI/OC/config.plist, or uncheck "Secure Boot Model" in Settings → Security and rebuild.
Can you try this?

@pmhjr510 Can you try setting SecureBootModel to disabled or updating the patcher?

@pmhjr510 ·

Yes, I disabled SecureBootModel and also updated the patch, but I'm still getting the same black screen and the Wi-Fi keeps turning off.
