Hi @friendlycatt! 👋

Thanks for providing the detailed OpenCore log files! Inspecting opencore-2026-09-07-144944.txt reveals the exact cause of both the Tahoe installer panic and the Sequoia boot freeze on your MacBook Pro 13" 2020 (MacBookPro16,3):

1. agdpmod=pikera on an iGPU-only model

Your MacBookPro16,3 only has an Intel Iris Plus Graphics (iGPU) and no discrete AMD GPU.
In the logs, your boot-args include agdpmod=pikera:

  • agdpmod=pikera is specifically intended for discrete AMD Navi/Polaris GPUs.
  • On an Intel iGPU-only MacBook, agdpmod=pikera disrupts AppleGraphicsDevicePolicy / Intel framebuffer initialization, causing WindowServer and the display controller to freeze or panic.

2. Residual NVRAM boot-args

Notice these lines in your logs:

OC: Not deleting NVRAM 7C436110-...:boot-args, matches add
OCVAR: Setting NVRAM 7C436110-...:boot-args - ignored, exists

OpenCore preserves existing NVRAM variables unless explicitly cleared. The custom arguments you tested (io=0xffffffff, -liludbgall, etc.) are persisting across boots and preventing clean driver startup for both Sequoia and Tahoe.

How to fix it:

  1. To boot back into Sequoia immediately:

    • Note that macOS 15 Sequoia is natively supported by Apple on MacBookPro16,3! You don't actually need OpenCore to run Sequoia on your machine.
    • Simply restart, hold Option (Alt), and select your native Macintosh HD volume directly (instead of EFI Boot).
  2. Perform a Clean NVRAM Reset:

    • At the OpenCore boot picker, press Space.
    • Select Reset NVRAM and let the Mac restart to clear the stale boot arguments.
  3. Update to OpenCore Legacy Patcher T2 4.0.0.18004.1 for Tahoe:

    • In newer builds, agdpmod is automatically tuned (vit9696 for iGPU models like MacBookPro16,3, and pikera only for dGPU models).
    • Rebuild and install OpenCore to your EFI partition.
    • For the Tahoe installer, standard clean boot-args will apply automatically without conflicts:
      -v rddelay=10 igfxfw=2 igfxonln=1 -disable_ext_panics -no_compat_check -revbeta agdpmod=vit9696 forceRenderStandby=0 revpatch=sbvmm ipc_control_port_options=0 AMFIPass=0x1

Give an NVRAM reset + OCLP update a try and let us know how it goes! 😊
