Sadly I don't have that MacBook Pro, I have a Mac mini 2018. But another tester is experimenting exactly with the same model here and you can see how it goes: #35

Did it work on macmini8,1 because i have one and im testing

@albert-mueller ·

Now with pre-alpha 3 for alpha 15 you may even reach the desktop. But that remains to be tested.

Tested on a Non-T2 Mac it kind of works. No Wi-Fi though (used a different fork build). Back on macOS Sonoma although reconsidering due to slowdowns.

Fixing WiFi on some non-T2 models require MetallibSupportPkg, and there are only 2 properly supported MetallibSupportPkg forks that support Tahoe that doesn't belong to any patcher yet.

No hurry, you’ve done a fantastic job getting T2 working.

I've had this link bookmarked "dortania/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher#1167" and have been checking it religiously for a long time and nothing since June of last year, but I noticed a comment on the very bottom from an Albert Mueller, that I guess I hadn't noticed before. I had no idea that he has been continuing this project!!! This made me sooo happy and I can confirm, I tried out his latest build on a non-T2 iMac 18,2 and after doing an upgrade install to my OCLP Sequoia install, it upgraded successfully to Tahoe and I have graphics acceleration, Wifi, ethernet, sound!!! I almost cried. Thank you so much for your continued support in this project! So many Macs can still run the last version of Mac on Intel!! I didn't try to see if EVERYTHING else was working, I just made sure GPU, audio, wifi, the basics. The first actual Mac I have with Tahoe!!! WOOHOO! Now I tried it with my T2 Macbook Pro 15" 2019 A1990. No luck there. turned off SIP and allowed booting from USB, but going through his OCLP won't allow me to reach sequoia either. But man is this progress.

I have a very similar iMac but mine is the 18,3 model. I'm keen to try Tahoe on this computer, can you describe in more detail what you did to get it to work?

@WhiteLighter78 ·

Ok! Well this was about a month ago, and it was with a version of the T2 patcher that's no longer available, it was version alpha 16.?.?. I had sequoia installed through the OCLP 2.4.1 and just installed that T2 version, and built a Mac installer and just tried it. I chose to upgrade over the sequoia installation rather than erase my hard drive and start fresh. I figured if it got borked, or didn't work, I knew how to reinstall a fresh copy of sequoia. So anyways after it installed, and went through the 3 reboots, I was at the Tahoe desktop, unpatched of course. I ran the T2 patcher, it recognized the hardware and patched. Then I rebooted and it just worked! I haven't touched it since. I started trying on my other Macs but no luck anywhere else yet.

@davewuk ·

When you say that you installed the T2 fork, did you also update your EFI by installing to disk before you did the in-place Tahoe upgrade? or did you leave the EFI untouched?

Alpha 16 was around then.
But back then I only kept the latest and sometimes a few versions earlier and that was it.

@WhiteLighter78 ·

No, I left the original EFI untouched, because I was using the USB drive for the testing. After the successfuly patching, then I installed the T2 fork to the hard drive.

@davewuk ·

If the update can be done without changing the EFI it seems like it's definitely worth a try as rolling back should be pretty straightforward. Thanks for the info!

System Specs:

iMac 18,3 (2017 27" 5k, i7 7700k, 16gb RAM, RX 580)

Here's what I've done so far:

  1. Boot into external drive with Sequoia
  2. Revert root patches in OCLP 2.5.0, reboot
  3. Remove OCLP 2.5.0
  4. Install OCLP T2 v4.0.0.18004.2 - 4.0.0 alpha 18.4.2
  5. Install root patches, reboot
  6. Run the Tahoe update to completion
  7. After booting to desktop I had no sound or wifi, but I'm connected by ethernet anyway so I installed the root patches and rebooted again
  8. After rebooting sound is working but wifi is not. It's turned off and I can't turn it on.

I don't know if there's anything else I can do at this point except wait for an update, but I'm going to leave the iMac to settle (it seems to be running a lot of background processes right now) and then see if anything else is broken.

I'm still booting from the EFI that was created by OCLP 2.5.0, don't know if that is likely to be an issue but while I'm testing I'm not going to change that just yet. I have made a backup of my EFI config anyway just in case I need to update it.

@davewuk ·

EDIT: After letting it settle, I retried the root patches. The process is very confusing - the GUI suggests the password is "password" to mount UniversalBinaries.dmg, but there's also a password prompt for the adminstrator password. I managed to get it to run in the end and no errors were thrown during patching - modern wireless and audio patches were installed.

After reboot I can toggle the wifi to on, but it does not detect any networks. I'm going to stick with ethernet for now.
