[Bug]: Cannot install Root Patches on first attempt but works second time

· by @davewuk · edited October 2, 2026

bug

Mac model / Mac-Modell

non-T chip: iMac 2017

Target macOS version (if it is about malicious forks, typosquatting sites or security vulnerabilities, write - instead) / macOS-Zielversion (falls es um Typpfehler-Webseiten, Typpfehler-Repository oder Sicherheitslücken handelt, schreiben Sie stattdessen ein - )

26.7.1 Tahoe

OpenCore Legacy Patcher T2 version (Please state the version clearly, not state as version new or something. / Bitte die exakte Version nennen, nicht nur etwas oder neu.)

4.0.0.190006.6 - 4.0.0 alpha 19.6.6

Issue type or recommendation / Typ Fehler oder Empfehlung

Installing root patches fails / Installierung von Root Patches schlägt fehl

Description / Beschreibung

When applying root patches after reverting, OCLP-T2 asks for the admin password in order to mount UniversalBinaries.dmg using the system password prompt (which I understand is after a recent update). However, after inputting the correct password, the root patching process fails to mount the disk image and it stops with a critical error. I can supply a log file if needed.

The weird thing is that if I restart the root patching process immediately after, it actually succeeds without prompting for the admin password!

I have to assume it is cached or it works like sudo in the terminal where it stays active for some minutes?

NB: I am still running 4.0.0.190006.6 - 4.0.0 alpha 19.6.6 as there's a problem with the newer version that prevents my mac from booting.

Steps to upload the logs of the kernel panic if any (if not, you can skip this step or write -) / Schritte zum Hochladen der Protokolle des Kernel-Panics, falls vorhanden (falls keiner, dann Sie können das überspringen oder einen - schreiben)

No response

Panic log (if any) / additional notes (if any) / Panikprotokoll (falls einer) / zusätzliche Notizen (falls einer)

@davewuk, the issue with the newer ones should have been fixed. And I will look into the root patch issue. As I am facing my own block with booting macOS, I can't say "yes, I will look into that issue right away." But, I will do my best.

Quick update: I've tested a few releases since Alpha 19.6.6 and they still all have the same problem with being unable to boot after updating EFI and reverting root patches.

@davewuk Can you try the latest version?
