Issue: Around at 18 minutes remaining it tells tells "Permission Denied" with Read only file system in logs.

I also tried booting from a working install (from my Hackintosh) and it did not work. I also tried installing on an external HDD, it copied the files but after reboot, it threw me an error that the installation could not be finished.

APFS doesn't work in the Tahoe installer on the internal SSD of my MacBook Air 2018. The installer boots fine, but formatting the internal drive as APFS fails with "-69832: File system formatter failed" in Disk Utility, and pre-formatted APFS volumes show up in the list but don't mount.

From Terminal it's the same thing:
newfs_apfs -v Test /dev/disk0s2
newfs_apfs: unable to format volume inside /dev/disk0s2: Invalid argument

Steps: boot the installer made by the patcher, open Terminal, run diskutil partitionDisk /dev/disk0 GPT APFS "Test" 0 (or erase the drive as APFS in Disk Utility). Expected: it gets formatted and mounts. Actual: it fails as above.

dmesg right after the failure is in the logs field below. The short version: APFS fails when AppleKeyStore is asked to create the system bound volume key on the internal SSD (err 0xe00002c2).

What works: HFS+ formats and mounts fine on the internal drive, APFS inside a disk image works (the installer's own base system is one), and Internet Recovery formats the same drive as APFS without problems.

What didn't change anything (same error every time): booting as the real MacBookAir8,1 or as the spoofed MacBookPro16,4, and adding aks-endpoint=0 acm_panic_on_sep_response_timeout=0 TSC_sync_margin=0 to the boot-args by hand (those are from the latest commit, they're not in the release). The Force FileVault patch isn't in this build's config either.

This is a follow up to #574. Still willing to test builds or changes.
This might be related to #533 (MacBookPro15,1, can't erase or create partitions in the installer), but I don't know that yet.

This is an addendum to my previous test report.

I've carefully reviewed the 19.9.9 changelog. The fact that the old boot.efi (OpenCore 1.0.4) and the old Spoof-VMM were causing unstable installations perfectly explains my failure yesterday. I was indeed using the older .7 version.

To help you further debug the T2TahoeFixup and the PMU/SEP deadlocks, I have transcribed the most critical lines from my previous crash logs (version .7). I believe the specific services hanging right before the panic will be very helpful.

Here are the two failure scenarios:

Scenario 1: Clean Install (Failed early with PMU deadlock)
Context: Pure APFS volume, Reset NVRAM. It stalled early without loading the UI. The screen froze at:

Scenario 2: Cover Install (Reached Login Window, but panicked at Login)

Key observation: In Scenario 2, AppleActuatorDeviceUserClient (related to the T2's built-in keyboard/trackpad controller and SEP) and com.apple.fskit seem to be failing or dying right before the loop starts.

I am currently downloading the new 19.9.9 release. I will run a clean install test on a fresh partition and provide the new verbose logs shortly.

Summary:
I conducted two days of testing on MacBookAir8,1 to compare a "dirty" cover install versus a clean install. The critical finding is that a "clean" install fails immediately at the PMU clock sync stage. Only a "dirty" cover install (overwriting an existing system volume with complex Preboot residues) can bypass T2's early boot validation and reach the graphical Login Window.

Day 1: The "Mistake" That Proved the Only Way Forward
• Setup (Dirty Environment): The target volume was created locally (no USB) and had a complex history: downgraded to Ventura, then upgraded to Sonoma. This left heavily mixed Preboot environments and security certificates. macOS 26 was then installed directly over this volume.
• Result: The installer completed Stage 1. The system successfully loaded the graphical Login Window. However, upon entering the password, the kernel panicked due to AppleKeyStore timeout (launchd infinite loop).
• Feasibility Analysis: If I had performed a clean install on Day 1 instead of this cover install, the system would never have reached the Login Window. It would have crashed early at the PMU stage (as proven on Day 2). Thus, the "dirty" cover install is currently the only viable method to bypass the early T2 boot validation.
Day 2: The Reality of Clean Install (Pure Environment)
• Setup: Created independent partitions (Installer HFS+ and Tahoe-Test APFS) and executed Reset NVRAM.
• Result: The system failed much earlier. It stalled at using hsynchronous pmu monotonic clock read and entered a launchd deadlock. The graphical installer was never reached.
• Implication: Without legacy Preboot residues to trick T2, the hardware strictly blocks PMU clock synchronization.
Additional Observations:
• Bypassing OpenCore: Booting natively triggers Apple's installer whitelist ("macOS Tahoe is not compatible with this Mac").
• SMBIOS Spoofing: Not feasible in the current OCLP-T2 UI.
Conclusion & Suggestion:
The T2 security chip remains a hard physical lock. The "dirty" cover install proves that the UI and core OS are fully compatible once early validation is bypassed. Future development should focus on dynamically generating or replaying a legitimate Preboot environment (mimicking the dirty state) to bypass the early PMU deadlock, while simultaneously addressing the final AppleKeyStore key exchange during user authentication.

After upgrading OpenCore-Patcher-T2 from 4.0.0.18005 to 4.0.0.190009.6, running root patching fails when mounting Universal-Binaries.dmg.

The patcher detects the installed KDK (KDK_26.6.2_25G83.kdk), permits repatching the uninstalled T1 Security Chip patch, and reports that root patching is possible. However, the unprivileged hdiutil attach fails, and retrying with administrator privileges also fails with return code 1.

The error is hdiutil: attach failed - 权限被拒绝 ("Permission denied"), followed by Elevated hdiutil attach did not mount the image and Critical resources missing, cannot continue with patching!!!.

Steps to reproduce

1. On a T1 MacBook Pro 2017 running macOS Tahoe 26.6.2 (25G83), upgrade OpenCore-Patcher-T2 from 4.0.0.18005 to 4.0.0.190009.6.
2. Start the root patching process.
3. Observe that mounting Universal-Binaries.dmg fails, including the automatic administrator-privilege retry.

Expected behavior

The patcher mounts Universal-Binaries.dmg successfully and proceeds with root patching.

Actual behavior

Root patching stops because the required disk image cannot be mounted.

Related report

#465 contains a similar hdiutil permission-denied message on an older version and different hardware. In the log below, the administrator retry fails and patching stops; there is no subsequent successful mount. It is not yet confirmed whether this has the same underlying cause.

Installing root patches fails / Installierung von Root Patches schlägt fehl

When applying root patches after reverting, OCLP-T2 asks for the admin password in order to mount UniversalBinaries.dmg using the system password prompt (which I understand is after a recent update). However, after inputting the correct password, the root patching process fails to mount the disk image and it stops with a critical error. I can supply a log file if needed.

The weird thing is that if I restart the root patching process immediately after, it actually succeeds without prompting for the admin password!

I have to assume it is cached or it works like sudo in the terminal where it stays active for some minutes?

NB: I am still running 4.0.0.190006.6 - 4.0.0 alpha 19.6.6 as there's a problem with the newer version that prevents my mac from booting.

thank you for your work on OpenCore Legacy Patcher T2.

I am using a 2019 27-inch iMac (iMac19,1) with the following configuration:

• Intel Core i9, 8 cores, 3.6 GHz
• Radeon Pro 580X with 8 GB VRAM
• 64 GB RAM
• 1 TB Apple PCIe SSD
• Retina 5K internal display
• macOS Sequoia 15.8.1 currently installed
• FileVault enabled
• SIP enabled

I am very interested in running macOS Tahoe on this machine, but I would prefer to wait until support for this specific configuration is reasonably stable.

Could you please let me know the current status of the iMac19,1, especially regarding:

• Radeon Pro 580X / Polaris graphics acceleration
• native 5K internal display support
• internal audio
• Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
• FileVault
• sleep/wake
• overall stability under macOS Tahoe

I noticed the recent Polaris-related changes in the 19.7 series, which look promising for this GPU.

Has the iMac19,1 with Radeon Pro 580X already been tested successfully, or are there still known blockers or limitations?

obviously the installers have been having issues recently. but I found something strange. the installer may be failing because of apfs failure. for some reason I can boot my native supported os which is sequoia and use its recovery to install it to a partition. weird part is I'm currently booted to sequoia through oclp t2 on the newest version and it booted with no issues. @albert-mueller @Medelcartelinc

After installing the OpenCore and booting up, USB stopped working at all and after performing root patches with my Polaris GPU, after booting up, GPU fans spin up to 100% for a second, then they spin down and monitor shows just a black screen.

To perform the root patches, I needed to set up a Remote Desktop connection (which was laggy as hell) and then I was able to do them.

after the new update the tahoe installer actually boots on the macbookpro16,3 (Thanks devs). theres still one isue. for some reason clicking on install mac os tahoe for some reason says this mac isnt compatible. i feel like its something with restrictevents.kext bc when i boot in verbose i notice before it even tries to load the mac os installer it says something about restrict events. i will post a log when i get one

i need some help with something. i have made a oc for a macbookpro16,3 and got the installer booted successfully. issue is when i go to install it says unsupported and smbios spoofing causes kernel panics when booting into the installer i combined a normal oc with the t2 installer and need to know what kind of thing does the patcher do to make it so it doesn't see it as unsupported because currently right now that is the only thing stopping me thanks

Boot failure / installation does not reach Setup Assistant or the desktop.

Description

After running the macOS Tahoe 26.6.2 installation on my 2017 MacBookPro14,3 using the release above, the machine remains stuck on the Apple logo and progress bar (Photo 1). It does not reach Setup Assistant, the login screen, or the desktop.

I then forced a restart and held Option. Apple's Startup Manager displayed two entries: EFI Boot and macOS Installer (Photo 2). EFI Boot is highlighted in the photo. This photo shows the entries available after restarting; it does not establish what happens after selecting either entry.

Although the installation appeared to have finished from my perspective, I cannot confirm that every installation phase completed, since the machine has not reached the installed system and a macOS Installer entry remains visible.

Steps to reproduce / observed sequence

1. Download the full Tahoe 26.6.2 installer using softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 26.6.2.
2. Verify SharedSupport.dmg and create a USB installer with Apple's createinstallmedia tool.
3. Use OpenCore Legacy Patcher T2 4.0.0.18003.9 to build/install OpenCore for MacBookPro14,3. The app reports that OpenCore finished installing to disk.
4. Run the Tahoe installation on the target MacBookPro14,3.
5. Observe that the machine remains on the Apple logo/progress bar instead of reaching Setup Assistant or the desktop.
6. Force a restart and hold Option: EFI Boot and macOS Installer appear, as shown in Photo 2.

Expected behavior

The installation should complete all required restart phases and reach Setup Assistant or the installed system when booted through the appropriate OpenCore entry.

Installer checks already performed

The final installer image was approximately 17 GiB, and hdiutil verified its partition checksums and reported:

checksum of SharedSupport.dmg is VALID

createinstallmedia completed successfully with:

Install media now available at "/Volumes/Install macOS Tahoe"

An earlier incomplete installer was replaced before this installation attempt; the results above are from the replacement installer used to create the USB.

Logs and information not yet available

No verbose boot log, panic log, or EFI archive is attached. The photos do not show a panic message. The exact wait duration, the precise installation phase that stalled, whether OpenCore was selected on every automatic restart, and the final root-patch state have not been confirmed. I am not claiming a specific kernel, GPU, or APFS cause from these photos alone.

Could you advise which boot entry to select at this stage and which logs would help determine why installation/boot is not progressing?

The only time it somewhat worked was during the very first boot into the installer, where it got stuck on the loading bar indefinitely. I haven't been able to reproduce that since. I wasn't running in verbose mode at the time, so I don't have logs for that attempt.
On one occasion, it triggered a Panic Medic Boot.

Note: csrutil and csrutil authenticated-root are automatically re-enabled after every kernel panic.

What I've tried

• Recreated the bootable installer drive
• Reset NVRAM (notably, only the EFI on the external drive is visible; the internal EFI does not show up even after installing OCLP to it)
• (Attempted to boot the main macOS partition via OCLP)
  None of these worked.

Hello,

I would like to report my current testing results on a Mac mini 2018 (Macmini8,1) with the T2 chip.

Hardware

Mac mini 2018 (Macmini8,1)

Intel Core i7
External USB 3.0 SSD

Previous experience (late 2025)

Back in late 2025, while testing an early OCLP 3.0 beta (official OCLP project, not this T2 fork), I managed to get surprisingly far with Tahoe on this machine.

At that time I was able to:

Boot the Tahoe installer

Format and select the target disk

Complete the initial installation phase

Successfully pass the first reboot

Continue the second installation stage

After the second reboot, the system would stop at the Apple logo with the progress bar barely started and never continue.

Because of this, I know that this machine was at least capable of completing most of the installation process.

Current testing with OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher-T2

First attempt

The installer successfully booted.

Instead of reaching the installer interface, I only got:

A gray screen

A visible and movable mouse cursor

No installer window or user interface appeared.

The machine remained in that state indefinitely.

Second attempt

Booting with verbose mode enabled, the system progressed much further.

The last visible messages were:

Apple T2 Controller
AppleUSBNCMData/en6
configureDatagramSizeOnBSDInterface()

At that point the system completely stopped progressing.

I waited more than 30 minutes and there was no additional output.

No kernel panic was displayed.

No reboot occurred.

Third attempt

A subsequent boot attempt stopped at a different location.

This time the system reached:

AppleIntelFramebuffer@0/AGPM

along with multiple messages related to:

AppleUserUSBHostHIDDevice
AppleUserHIDEventDriver
IOHIDProviderPropertyMerger

The machine again froze permanently.

The interesting part is that the freeze point was different from the previous attempt.

Observations

From my testing, the behavior does not appear completely deterministic.

I have now observed three different outcomes:

1. Gray screen with a working mouse cursor.

2. Freeze after Apple T2 Controller / AppleUSBNCMData initialization.

3. Freeze earlier during Intel framebuffer / HID initialization.

Since I was previously able to complete most of the Tahoe installation process using an early OCLP 3.0 beta in 2025, I suspect that Macmini8,1 may be capable of booting significantly further than expected and that the remaining issues could be related to T2, BridgeOS, USBNCM, initialization timing, or service startup order rather than a hard hardware incompatibility.

I have attached photos from the verbose boot process and would be happy to perform additional testing if needed.
